About Khedia Gram Panchayat

Khedia (खिडया) is a village-level local government (Gram Panchayat) in Saiyan block, Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. For land and revenue matters it falls in Kheragarh tehsil, and the district belongs to the Agra Division. The official LGD code of this panchayat is 43266.

The panchayat consists of a single revenue village, Khedia, so the Gram Sabha here is made up of all registered voters of that village.

By straight-line distance, Khedia lies about 23 km to the south of Agra headquarters. Khedia is about 8.1 km south of the centre of Saiyan block. For rail travel, Jajau station (around 11 km away) is the closest.

Within Saiyan block there are 43 gram panchayats (and 695 across Agra district); Khedia is one of them. Its voters elect their MLA from the Kheragarh assembly constituency and its MP from the Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha constituency.

This page brings together everything a resident or visitor of Khedia usually needs: who the Gram Pradhan, MLA and MP are, which villages make up the panchayat, where the polling booths and nearby facilities are, which welfare schemes apply, and how to get documents such as family register copies, income or caste certificates.

As in most of rural Uttar Pradesh, farming, wheat in the Rabi season and paddy in the Kharif season, depending on the area, along with dairy and wage work under MGNREGA, is the main source of livelihood around Khedia. Households can get a MGNREGA job card from the gram panchayat for up to 100 days of paid work a year, and farmers can register for PM-KISAN and Kisan Credit Cards through the block agriculture office or a Common Service Centre.

Administration

Khedia Gram Panchayat is governed by an elected Gram Pradhan (village head), an Up-Pradhan and ward members, all chosen by the Gram Sabha, every adult registered voter of the panchayat’s villages. Day-to-day records are kept by the Panchayat Secretary (Gram Panchayat Adhikari) posted by Saiyan block, who also registers births and deaths for the panchayat.

Every gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh is required to form 6 committees: Planning and Development Committee (chaired by the Pradhan), Education Committee, Construction Works Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Administrative Committee and Water Management Committee. The Gram Sabha must meet at least twice a year (after the Kharif and Rabi harvests) to review the accounts and approve the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on the eGramSwaraj portal.
