As in most of rural Uttar Pradesh, farming, wheat in the Rabi season and paddy in the Kharif season, depending on the area, along with dairy and wage work under MGNREGA, is the main source of livelihood around Khaunda. Administration

Under the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 1947, Khaunda is run by its elected Gram Pradhan together with the Up-Pradhan and the members of each ward. The Gram Sabha of all adult voters approves the annual plan and the list of scheme beneficiaries, while the Panchayat Secretary (Gram Panchayat Adhikari) assigned by the Tindwari block office keeps the Parivar Register (family register), the accounts and the birth-death register.

Every gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh is required to form 6 committees: Planning and Development Committee (chaired by the Pradhan), Education Committee, Construction Works Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Administrative Committee and Water Management Committee. The Gram Sabha must meet at least twice a year (after the Kharif and Rabi harvests) to review the accounts and approve the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on the eGramSwaraj portal.
