As in most of rural Uttar Pradesh, farming, wheat in the Rabi season and paddy in the Kharif season, depending on the area, along with dairy and wage work under MGNREGA, is the main source of livelihood around Jhada. Households can get a MGNREGA job card from the gram panchayat for up to 100 days of paid work a year, and farmers can register for PM-KISAN and Kisan Credit Cards through the block agriculture office or a Common Service Centre.

Administration

Jhada Gram Panchayat is governed by an elected Gram Pradhan (village head), an Up-Pradhan and ward members, all chosen by the Gram Sabha, every adult registered voter of the panchayat’s villages. Day-to-day records are kept by the Panchayat Secretary (Gram Panchayat Adhikari) posted by Faridpur block, who also registers births and deaths for the panchayat.

Every gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh is required to form 6 committees: Planning and Development Committee (chaired by the Pradhan), Education Committee, Construction Works Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Administrative Committee and Water Management Committee. The Gram Sabha must meet at least twice a year (after the Kharif and Rabi harvests) to review the accounts and approve the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on the eGramSwaraj portal.
