About Jamu Gram Panchayat

Jamu (जामू) is a village-level local government (Gram Panchayat) in Sandila block, Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. For land and revenue matters it falls in Sandila tehsil, and the district belongs to the Lucknow Division. The official LGD code of this panchayat is 68283.

The panchayat consists of a single revenue village, Jamu, so the Gram Sabha here is made up of all registered voters of that village.

From Hardoi headquarters, Jamu is approximately 49 km away in the south-east direction. Jamu is about 3.9 km north-west of the centre of Sandila block. For rail travel, Umar Tali station (around 4.2 km away) is the closest.

Within Sandila block there are 72 gram panchayats (and 1,306 across Hardoi district); Jamu is one of them. Its voters elect their MLA from the Sandila assembly constituency and its MP from the Misrikh Lok Sabha constituency.

This page brings together everything a resident or visitor of Jamu usually needs: who the Gram Pradhan, MLA and MP are, which villages make up the panchayat, where the polling booths and nearby facilities are, which welfare schemes apply, and how to get documents such as family register copies, income or caste certificates.

Hardoi district’s One District One Product (ODOP) is Handloom. Artisans and entrepreneurs from Jamu working in this trade can apply at the District Industries Centre for ODOP margin-money loans, training and toolkits.

As in most of rural Uttar Pradesh, farming, wheat in the Rabi season and paddy in the Kharif season, depending on the area, along with dairy and wage work under MGNREGA, is the main source of livelihood around Jamu. Households can get a MGNREGA job card from the gram panchayat for up to 100 days of paid work a year, and farmers can register for PM-KISAN and Kisan Credit Cards through the block agriculture office or a Common Service Centre.

Administration

Jamu Gram Panchayat is governed by an elected Gram Pradhan (village head), an Up-Pradhan and ward members, all chosen by the Gram Sabha, every adult registered voter of the panchayat’s villages. Day-to-day records are kept by the Panchayat Secretary (Gram Panchayat Adhikari) posted by Sandila block, who also registers births and deaths for the panchayat.

Every gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh is required to form 6 committees: Planning and Development Committee (chaired by the Pradhan), Education Committee, Construction Works Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Administrative Committee and Water Management Committee. The Gram Sabha must meet at least twice a year (after the Kharif and Rabi harvests) to review the accounts and approve the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on the eGramSwaraj portal.
