About Gorkha Gram Panchayat

Gorkha (गोरखा) is a village-level local government (Gram Panchayat) in Charkhari block, Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh. For land and revenue matters it falls in Charkhari tehsil, and the district belongs to the Chitrakoot Division. The official LGD code of this panchayat is 77074.

The panchayat consists of a single revenue village, Gorkha, so the Gram Sabha here is made up of all registered voters of that village.

By straight-line distance, Gorkha lies about 25 km to the north-west of Mahoba headquarters. Gorkha is about 14 km south-west of the centre of Charkhari block. For rail travel, Kulpahar station (around 11 km away) is the closest.

Within Charkhari block there are 52 gram panchayats (and 274 across Mahoba district); Gorkha is one of them. Its voters elect their MLA from the Charkhari assembly constituency and its MP from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency.

This page brings together everything a resident or visitor of Gorkha usually needs: who the Gram Pradhan, MLA and MP are, which villages make up the panchayat, where the polling booths and nearby facilities are, which welfare schemes apply, and how to get documents such as family register copies, income or caste certificates.

As in most of rural Uttar Pradesh, farming, wheat in the Rabi season and paddy in the Kharif season, depending on the area, along with dairy and wage work under MGNREGA, is the main source of livelihood around Gorkha. Households can get a MGNREGA job card from the gram panchayat for up to 100 days of paid work a year, and farmers can register for PM-KISAN and Kisan Credit Cards through the block agriculture office or a Common Service Centre.

Administration

Under the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 1947, Gorkha is run by its elected Gram Pradhan together with the Up-Pradhan and the members of each ward. The Gram Sabha of all adult voters approves the annual plan and the list of scheme beneficiaries, while the Panchayat Secretary (Gram Panchayat Adhikari) assigned by the Charkhari block office keeps the Parivar Register (family register), the accounts and the birth-death register.

Every gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh is required to form 6 committees: Planning and Development Committee (chaired by the Pradhan), Education Committee, Construction Works Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Administrative Committee and Water Management Committee. The Gram Sabha must meet at least twice a year (after the Kharif and Rabi harvests) to review the accounts and approve the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on the eGramSwaraj portal.
